Does the Source Access Filter filter the filter values of the left side nav bar?
21 July, 2014
Dear YF Support Team!
I recently discovered a change in how Source Access filter work regarding the left side nav filter bar in a report. I am not sure whether this change is intended or due to wrong configuration settings on our side.
What exactly has changed?
We are using the Source Access Filter on view level for assigning access to certain org units for different users.
Before the change, users saw in the left side filter nav bar only the filter values which - according to the Source Access filter - they have access to. Only administrators - having a '%' in the Source Access Filter for full access - saw all filter values in the list.
After the change, all users do see all filter values in the left side filter nav bar. Like before, they only get data in the report when selecting the filter value they have access to. But it is more confusing for them than before.
Thus, the core difference is that the Source Access filter is not automatically filtering the filter values of the left side filter nav bar.
Is this indended behaviour? Or did we accidentally made a wrong configuration setting? (We are using the latest YF 7 build.)
Thank you so much & kind regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
I just did a general test of this issue in my own installation of the latest build of Yellowfin 7 using the demo Ski Team database and could not reproduce it (I am sorry - I know this has happened quite a bit lately, I know it must be frustrating for you and let me assure you it is also frustrating for me!)
1) the 2 Source filters are turned on (the filter allows Admin to only see the Aust. region):
2) the Left Nav filters are working:
3) the 2 Source filters are turned off:
4) the Left Nav filters show all Regions:
So this inability to reproduce it using the latest build of YF 7 with the Ski Team points me to 2 next steps:
1) I know it is a basic check but it has to be done first, could you please make sure the filters are formatted as Access Filter Values (see below), you never know, perhaps the previous settings were somehow lost in the upgrade:
2) If the above possibility is not the cause, then perhaps the issue is unique to your DB, so of course I will try to reproduce the issue on our restoration of your DB. For this, could you please tell me a specific report, filter, and user for which this occurs with.
thanks,
Dave

Hi David,
thank you for the detailed post. The issue occured due to a wrong configuration setting on our side. The steps you are describing are refering to report level filters. Since we are using view level filter groups, the following tick has to be enabled within the view level filter group configuration menue:
Your description lead me to the solution - Thank you so much!
Thus, this time no need for replication - Yeah! ;-)
Kind regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
PHEW!!!! I am very relieved. Thank you for letting me know the good news - no frustrating replication attempts for this issue. Now I will have a more relaxed weekend!
Thanks again,
Dave
