How to sort depending filter
26 December, 2012
Hi Supporter,
i have a problem when i tried to sort the filter value. i have a parent filter as below:
And a child filter depend on the parent filter:
And i want to sort the child filter value a special order like below, i ordered the value using Org reference code:
But i found after i change the setting as above, the depending on filter didn't work.
So can you give some advice to sort the child filter not alphabet asc, even sort desc will be ok. I want to know how to change the default sort.
Best Regards,
Ya Qing

Hi Ya Qing,
Reference codes cannot be used in this scenario, so you have 2 ways around this;
1.
Use a custom query filter. This should allow you to enter in freehand sql and specify a sort order.
2.
Use the ascending/descending option (see screenshot below).
This was added in Yellowfin 6.1 + builds.
Which build of Yellowfin are you currently using?

Hi David,
In another report I tried to use Custom Query for my filter, and sort as desc as below:
But the filter still sort as asc:
And the Yellowfin is 6.1 :
Is it OK if i use yellowfin 6.2 for custom query sort as desc?

Hi Ya Qing,
Upgrading to Yellowfin 6.2 will not help with custom queries.
It looks like I was not really sorting the custom query ealier, it was using ref codes without me realizing.
So it leaves us with one option only , use the 'How should the drop down list be ordered' as shown in the previous screenshot. This should also be available for custom queries.
Do you not have this option?

David

Hi David,
Thanks, my yellowfin version is 6.1, so now i can't see the option.
i hope 6.2 will help me to solve this problem.

Hi Ya Qing,
I don't believe upgrading will help, as this feature should be included in your release of Yellowfin 6.1 , so I think the issue lies in your filter setup.
Can you choose 'Cached Values' and then try?
Also, do you have the option for any of the filters? I'm wondering if it's playing up with certain filters in the dependency.
Though I believe this also relates to this post ;
How to sort filter with a special order dynamically
Which may resolve this issue.
