Jasper Report formatting Problem
20 December, 2011
Hi,
I have created a Jasper report, I can see the proper formatting in the i-Report, but after I see that there various formatting missing on the actual report after importing to Yellowfin.
Please find the attached snapshots for the both reports, one from i-Report and other from Yellowfin with same report.
Also, There are some of the data which is coming as null but in i-Report report you can see the data for the same report inputs.
Can you please tell me what exactly is need to do to get the same formatting as displayed in the i-Report ? Is there be anything wrong in the report.
Regards,
Gaurav

Hi,
I have few requirements in the Jasper report created :
1. Jasper report list filter populated from SQL.
2. Linking of the Jasper report filter with source filter from Yellowfin.
Any help on this will also be appreciated.

Hi Gaurav,
In regards to the Jasper features;
1. Jasper report list filter populated from SQL.
This isn't supported at the moment, though I have created an enhancement request for this (TASK ID = 110186)
2. Linking of the Jasper report filter with source filter from Yellowfin.
This isn't supported at the moment, and have created an enhancement request for this (TASK ID = 110187)
The report should look the same in Yellowfin as it does in iReports, and should also be bringing back the data.
What version of iReports/Yellowfin are you using so we can run some tests in the office.
Also, if you were to create a Yellowfin report (using the same fields) do you still get NULLS returned in the report?
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply I have able to successfully running that Jasper report in Yellowfin now. As I forgot to put the custom jar file in lib folder. Now, I get the exactly same formatting as I am getting in i-Report.
The only remaining things that are :
1. Jasper report list filter populated from SQL.
2. Linking of the Jasper report filter with source filter from Yellowfin.
both are not achievable using the current Yellowfin version.Hope that they will be available in upcoming version.

Gaurav

Hi Gaurav,
Glad the formatting issue is now sorted.
These enhancements will be discussed with the development team in early January, so hopefully I can give a rough ETA after the discussion.
Thanks,
David

I'm having similar problems with importing Jasper reports - the formatting is no where near pixel-perfect, especially the line spacing and on sometimes static text heading go missing.
From the above post by Gustav - do I have to add any jar files into the Yellowfin/appserver/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/lib/ directory?
Regards,
Andy.

Hi Andy,
Apologies for the delayed response.
What version of Yellowfin/Jasper are you using?
Also if you were to export this report (from within Yellowfin) to PDF does the report appear ok?

David

Hi David,
The PDF export looked much better, the line spacing was a better representation by far and one of the fields missing in the Yellowfin view of the report actually appeared OK when exported to PDF. The text looked a little bit too big, some heading fields overflowed to an extra line but otherwise OK.
Here's the Yellowfin server details:
Application Version: 6.0
Build: 20120329
Java Version: 1.6.0_31
Operating System: Linux 2.6.18-194.el5 (amd64)
and here's the iReports details:
Product Version: Jaspersoft iReport Designer 4.5.1
Java: 1.6.0_24; Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM 19.1-b02
System: Windows 7 version 6.1 running on x86; Cp1252; en_NZ (ireport)
Cheers,
Andy.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the info.
It seems like this is an issue in Yellowfin itself, and may be related to the fonts/elements used in Jasper not being handled correctly with HTML.
We are currently investigating and will get back to you as soon as I have an update.
Regards,
David

Hi David,
After the 6.2 upgrade I tried again to load a Jasper report and it still looks the same as the one above on screen but exports to PDF OK.
Is it worth my time trying to create a simple Jasper report with only known fonts in it and seeing if it displays any better?
We'd like to get this going so we can offer our Yellowfin customers the library of standard reports we've built in Jasper without having to log in to 2 different interfaces.

Hi Andy,
Sorry to hear you are still having issues.
Creating a simply jasper report with a known font such as Arial might be a good test.
What font are you using in the Jasper report?
However it may also be a good idea to get the correct .jar file for the version of Jasper you are using.
Update the Jasper libraries used in Yellowfin.
To do this;
1 Stop your Yellowfin instance
2  Download the latest jasperreports-4.5.1.jar file from the following link ;
http://sourceforge.net/projects/jasperreports/files/jasperreports/JasperReports%204.5.1/
3 - Remove the file jasperreports-4.5.0.jar (found under YellowfinappserverwebappsROOTWEB-INFlib)
4 Copy in the newly downloaded file jasperreports-4.5.1.jar into the same location YellowfinappserverwebappsROOTWEB-INFlib .
5 - Start Yellowfin and create your Jasper report
Please let me know how you go.
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
I've loaded the appropriate jasperreports-4.5.1.jar java archive and restarted Yellowfin but there is change to the way the report displays.
The font in that report is 'SansSerif' throughout.
The simple report I created using Ariel throughout failed to run at all in Yellowfin giving the error "Error retrieving results - An error occurred retrieving the results from the database. Please check the SQL syntax and try again."
The SQL is not the problem, I could copy the SQL from the link on the error message and paste it into a Freehand SQL report over the same source and it runs fine.

Hi Andy,
Sounds like we have another issue that is stopping us from running the font test :( .
Font issue : Fonts not displaying correctly
In Yellowfin, if you open a report and change the font of the report title, what fonts are listed? Is SansSerif there?
Fonts on the report output page are actually taken from the browser and not the server. This is to stop the server using a font that the end-user may not have on their PC.
The following post explains how to add additional fonts for use in Yellowfin:
Adding additional fonts for use in Yellowfin
SQL Syntax Issue
This is very strange as you have confirmed the SQL is valid.
I haven't seen this before, and was wondering if we could get access to your Yellowfin server via our browser? You can email across the details to support@Yellowfin.bi .
Thanks,
David

Hi David,
I'll pick this back up in the New Year, I've been tied up with a gnarly customer support issue all day and haven't had a chance to respond.
Andy.
