SMTP Timeout

Hey All

We need to use smtp.google.com as our outgoing mail server as we are a Google Business Apps client.

We have tried ports 465,587 and 25, with SSL and STARTTLS on and off.

With it on and sending a testing email we get the following error:
SMTP Authentication failed
javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException

With it off we get the message that we must enable STARTTLS.

If we use port 465, we get the following error:

Connection Failed
javax.mail.MessagingException: Exception reading response;
nested exception is:
java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

According to a Google support site answer see below:

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS or SSL:
smtp.gmail.com
Use Authentication: Yes
Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
Port for SSL: 465
Server timeouts Greater than 1 minute, we recommend 5

Is there a way to increase the timeout, or is there a way to set it up to simply work without configuring or playing with timeouts?

Thank you in advance
Hi,

Sorry for the delays.
At the moment YF does not allow users to configure the mail timeout , however I have raised an enhancement request for this (TASK ID = 173331).

It is a little strange that you may need to wait up to 5mins to send an email, and this is the first requests we have had to increase the timeout.
Though I am worried that your issue, actually stems from the settings and not a timeout.

I know it seems like you have tried every option, though I'm wondering if there is some combination you have not tried as yet.
Do you have this mail setup in another app with the same settings?

Also which article referred to the 5min timeout, as we were not able to find one.
Though did find a few articles with the above settings you have provided.

Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused, it's just hard with these sorts of problems as the only way we can test is to use that exact same account.

Regards,
David

Is there an ETA for this task? TASK ID = 173331

Chris
