Waiaua Bay Farm Limited boosts customer service at chain of luxury New Zealand resorts with Yellowfin BI

Waiaua Bay Farm’s luxury chain of New Zealand resorts has implemented Yellowfin’s Business Intelligence (BI) solution to improve customer service and enhance operational efficiencies.

Yellowfin’s BI solution has been introduced across the chain comprising three separate retreats – The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, The Farm at Cape Kidnappers and Matakauri Lodge – spread throughout some of New Zealand’s most scenic coastal and mountain regions.

Yellowfin’s self-service BI technologies have allowed the group’s operational and financial managers to more efficiently and independently monitor business performance.

“We have a number of disparate IT systems and databases,” said Senior Finance Officer for Cape Kidnappers, Paul Sanders. “Yellowfin has allowed us to reduce the number of days required to produce monthly management accounts significantly, decrease reliance on spreadsheets and thus minimize reporting errors, while allowing a wider group of managers to analyze data across our underlying systems to produce more meaningful reporting.

“Ensuring exceptional customer service standards, while safeguarding financial viability, is paramount to our success. Yellowfin is helping us better achieve those goals.”

Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie, said that he was excited by the opportunity to work closely with another industry leading ANZ (Australian and New Zealand) based organization.

“Waiaua Bay Farm, like Yellowfin, is headquartered in ANZ and is a leader in their specific market. We look forward to contributing to their continued success.”

Using Yellowfin, Waiaua Bay Farm is able to assess detailed finance and performance data, including profit and loss figures, revenue statistics, operations costs, reservations, payroll information, margin analysis and sales commissions, while comparing data to predicted and past benchmarks.

“The business managers and senior executives are bowled over by the power of Yellowfin,” said Cape Kidnappers Managing Director, Jay Robertson. “It is seen universally as a great step forward in helping us manage our business better.”

Robertson said that Yellowfin was ultimately chosen over other BI products due to its flexibility, affordability and support.

“After evaluating a number of systems, we went with Yellowfin because of its flexibility and affordability,” said Robertson. “We can create new reports ourselves rather than having to rely on external consultants to write them for us. We are even able to create reports ‘on the fly’.

“Choosing Yellowfin was a great business decision; they under-promised and over-delivered. The after-sale support has been terrific.”

About Waiaua Bay Farm

The Waiaua Bay Farm group consists of three luxury lodges and two golf courses in New Zealand. In 2000, American financier Julian Robertson set about creating the Kauri Cliffs Golf Course in the Bay of Islands, near the tip of New Zealand’s North Island complete with the award-winning The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs. Then in 2004 came The Farm at Cape Kidnappers in the wine region outside Napier, famous also for its Tom Doak-designed Cape Kidnappers Golf Course. Then in 2010 Matakauri Lodge was unveiled in Queenstown, South Island. All three have appeared on Condé Nast Traveller’s Hot List or Gold List over the years. The two courses now rank as the best in the Asia-Pacific region.
