About Yellowfin 7.1: Main Enhancements

  • Location: Gain deeper insight with enhanced mapping, geocoding and demographic data
  • Visualizations: Experience better visual analysis with a broader range of Auto Charts
  • Spreadsheets: Enjoy a simplified process for using CSV files as a data source

Location

Beautiful base maps: Yellowfin 7.1 will ship with a base map for the world, including detailed levels for zoomed-in analysis. This base map will enable you to immediately create insightful multilayered maps without needing to source WMS layers. Whilst not a replacement for Google Maps or GIS packages, it will enable you to create beautiful maps with ease.

Geocoding to postcode level: Quickly turn your address data into stunning maps. Yellowfin automatically assigns postcodes, latitude and longitude co-ordinates, as well as polygons, to enable you to see your business on a map. While everyone has address data, many of our customers have struggled to gain access to GIS data in the past. With Yellowfin 7.1, you’ll be able to geocode your address data to postcode level on-the-fly, and render this information on maps with ease.

Geographic data enrichment: With GeoPacks (soon to be downloadable from the Yellowfin website), easily access demographic data to enhance your location based analysis. Answer questions like: ‘How do my sales per region compare when factoring in population density?’ Yellowfin 7.1 will ship with demographic data for key regions – including data such as population, average household income, median age, unemployment rates and more. This data will help you segment your customers by geography and gain a better understanding of important characteristics. Yellowfin’s GeoPacks will be extended to include more countries over time.

Visualizations

We want to ensure the best analytical experience for the data analyst. That’s why Yellowfin 7.1 extends the Auto Chart functionality launched in Yellowfin 7.

The improvements made in Yellowfin 7.1 will allow rapid, free flow visual analysis. For example, Yellowfin’s Auto Chart feature will now instantly create combination charts when you combine multiple metrics with dimensional data.

The use of color options has also been improved dramatically. Easily apply conditional formatting to create color-coding across dimensions or metrics. Enjoy improved range settings for metric-defined colors across all chart types.

Spreadsheets

Experience an easier way to use spreadsheets as a data source. The entire process for loading CSV files into Yellowfin has been simplified and improved – from the creation of a target database to data preview. Fewer steps mean a more intuitive process and faster insights.

An overhauled CSV import process reduces upload errors. The load and append processes have been rewritten to minimize errors, and assist you if inaccuracies do arise, minimizing frustration and creating a better user experience.

Calculations, column formatting and date parsing also make CSV data more flexible to use. Previously, there were few options to define preferred formats or calculations when loading a spreadsheet into Yellowfin. With the new data preview process in Yellowfin 7.1, you can add Calculated Fields, format columns and create drill hierarchies. And, best of all, you can use date parsing to convert either text-based dates or timestamps into Yellowfin readable date fields. It all adds up to a massive improvement in usability for CSV files.
