Yellowfin Business Intelligence praised as ‘pragmatic’ and ‘powerful’ in Butler Analytics review

Global Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics software vendor, Yellowfin, has been praised for its “pragmatic”, “powerful” and “easy to use” BI software in a comparative review of 17 of the world’s leading BI platforms conducted by independent software adviser, Butler Analytics (butleranalytics.com).

The Enterprise BI Platforms Compared report ranked the globe’s foremost BI solutions across five core criteria – Capability, Performance, Extensibility, Productivity and Value, awarding Yellowfin the equal second highest overall rating of 4.2 out of five. The highest overall rating achieved by any vendor included in the study was 4.3 out of five.

Yellowfin was also the only vendor in the study to receive a perfect five out of five score for the “Productivity” criteria, defined by Butler Analytics as “the support a platform offers for productive work”.

“Yellowfin BI provides a powerful BI environment, which is also easy to use,” read the report. “This is a rare combination and probably accounts for the various accolades it has acquired in recent years. It provides dashboards, reporting, Data Discovery and visualization tools, Storyboarding and Collaborative BI as well as providing good Mobile BI support.

“We really like the practical, get things done nature of this product. It doesn’t carry the extra weight of some of the older BI platforms, and it isn’t focused on visual trivia as some of the newer products are.”

Yellowfin COO, Justin Hewitt, said that the results of the report reflected Yellowfin’s product and go-to-market strategy.

“At Yellowfin, we take a very pragmatic, consumer-oriented approach to Business Intelligence, to enable truly pervasive deployments and widespread user adoption,” said Hewitt. “We know that empowering as many people as possible to make better, faster fact-based decisions is crucial to ensure strong Return on Investment for BI.”

About Butler Analytics

Butler Analytics was founded by Martin Butler, best known as founder of Butler Group – Europe’s largest indigenous IT analyst firm until its acquisition by Datamonitor in 2005. He has spoken at hundreds of conferences, advised many of the world’s largest corporations, written numerous reports and been featured in various business and technology magazines. Martin has a B.Sc in theoretical physics and studied quantum mechanics and general relativity for two years as a post-graduate.

Butler Analytics deals exclusively with the role of information in business and at the present time this means analytics. Some may have noticed the inexorable drift from the traditional use of technology as a means of automating business processes to its use as a means of providing information. This is more significant than most appreciate, requiring new skills, a new understanding of the role of technology in business, new strategies and a clear understanding of the power of information in a business environment.
