The 2014 edition and thirteenth version of BARC’s The BI Survey, The BI Survey 14, was based on data collected from 3,224 respondents with first-hand experience using the 34 BI solutions assessed within the report. BARC’s The BI Survey is the world’s largest annual survey of BI end-users.

“Yellowfin is clearly the leader in innovation, a key advantage being sought by all types of organizations seeking to compete in today’s global economy,” stated the report. “Yellowfin is highly regarded by customers as an innovator as it implemented new developments in Cloud BI and Mobile BI earlier than its competitors. The product’s modern look and feel, and innovations – especially around Mobile BI – contribute to this strong result.”

Yellowfin General Manager for EMEA, Daniel Shaw-Dennis, said that the major win for Yellowfin was particularly significant, as the crucial ‘Innovation’ criterion combined the report’s ‘Cloud BI’, ‘Collaboration’, ‘Data discovery / visualization’, ‘Mobile BI’, ‘Operational BI’ and ‘Visual design standards’ KPI scores to “measure the products level of innovation”.

“Being the top ranked BI solution for innovation over the past three years, in both the Dashboard and Ad-hoc Reporting Vendor Peer Groups, means that we’re delivering pioneering features that set Yellowfin apart from its competitors,” said Shaw-Dennis. “Importantly, it also means that we’re empowering our customers and partners to attain the strongest return on investment possible from their BI venture.”

Shaw-Dennis added that Yellowfin’s rapid product development strategy had enable it to bring key innovations to market faster than its competitors, delivering value and clear points of differentiation to its clients.

“Yellowfin’s imaginative approach to the BI market has seen it develop distinguishing consumer-oriented features – particularly in regards to Mobile BI, Cloud BI, Collaborative BI, Data Discovery and visualization,” said Founder and CEO of BARC, Dr Carsten Bange. “Often viewed as the brash new player in the BI and analytics market, its users clearly see Yellowfin as a leader in innovation in dashboarding and ad-hoc reporting.”

Yellowfin ranked first for four KPIs (Price-to-value perception, Cloud BI, Mobile BI and Innovation) – and was identified as a leader for an additional 12 KPIs – within the Dashboard Vendor Peer Group of The BI Survey 14.

Yellowfin also ranked first for three KPIs (Price-to-value perception, Cloud BI and Innovation) – and was recognized as a leading BI product in a further 13 KPIs – within the Ad-hoc Reporting Vendor Peer Group in The BI Survey 14.

BARC’s The BI Survey 14 provides an apples-for-apples comparison of the globe’s foremost 34 BI products, assessed across 34 KPIs and over eight Peer Groups, to establish “winners and losers” for important functional, performance, scalability and support criteria.
