Yellowfin named a Champion in Info-Tech’s latest mid market Business Intelligence report

Global Business Intelligence (BI) and analytics software vendor, Yellowfin, has been listed as a “Champion” in Info-Tech Research Group’s latest Mid-Market Business Intelligence Vendor Landscape report.

Yellowfin was one of four vendors placed in the study’s BI “Champion” category out of the 11 selected for assessment. Yellowfin was also identified as an “Exemplary Performer” in Collaborative BI.

“With the ability to create a profile, update statuses, and track past conversations, no other platforms enable collaboration like Yellowfin,” said Senior Consulting Analyst at Info-Tech Research Group, Daniel Ko. “This feature both improves adoption amongst business users and improves the decision-making process within the organization.”

Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie, attributed Yellowfin’s standout performance to the vendor’s latest product version, Yellowfin 7.

“Ease of use, particularly for data consumers, and collaboration have always been priorities in Yellowfin’s product development,” said Rabie. “The launch of Yellowfin 7 strengthened that focus. But, it also introduced enriched administration, as well as improved content creation and analysis, to make pervasive Data Discovery a reality for our clients. Yellowfin’s performance in Info-Tech Research Group’s latest Mid-Market Business Intelligence Vendor Landscape report demonstrates that the BI industry is taking note of Yellowfin 7.”

The Info-Tech Research Group’s Vendor Landscape reports divide vendors into for quadrants:

  • Champions (top right): Receive high scores for most evaluation criteria and offer excellent value. They have a strong market presence and are usually the trendsetters for the industry.
  • Market Pillars (bottom right): Are established players with very strong vendor credentials, but with more average product scores.
  • Innovators (top left): Have demonstrated innovative product strengths that act as their competitive advantage in appealing to niche segments of the market.
  • Emerging Players (bottom left): Are comparatively newer vendors who are starting to gain a foothold in the marketplace. They balance product and vendor attributes, though score lower relative to market Champions.

The study evaluated BI products against four core criteria: Features, Usability, Affordability and Architecture.

Vendors themselves were also evaluated against four criteria, including Viability (vendor is profitable, knowledgeable, and will be around for the long term), Strategy (vendor is committed to the space and has a future product and portfolio roadmap), Reach (vendor offers global coverage and is able to sell and provide post-sales support) and Channel (vendor channel strategy is appropriate and the channels themselves are strong).

The 11 vendors included in the study were chosen after being vetted by Info-Tech Research Group’s rigorous research and evaluation methodology. According to the analyst firm, the report is designed to help enterprise IT decision-makers identify a BI vendor shortlist, and only includes “those vendors which we would recommend to our clients.”

“For this Vendor Landscape, Info-Tech focused on those vendors that offer broad capabilities across multiple platforms and that have a strong market presence and/or reputational presence among mid-sized enterprises,” stated the report.

Vendors selected for inclusion in the study were also able to demonstrate commitment to major trends in BI, including: “the ability to access BI on mobile devices, the use of intuitive interfaces that promote self-service for business users, and in-memory analysis for quickly generating reports.”
