Can we connect to an excel file directly?
4 February, 2014
Hi,
We have a huge excel file that is continuously updating by multiple users. We want to generate various reports out of it. So our requirement is set this excel as a data source and generate various reports our of it.
Can you please let me know whether this is possible in Yellowfin or not? If possible suggest me how I can achieve this?
Kind regards,
Buddhi

Hi Buddhi,
Connecting to Excel files are no longer supported, as it was found to be inherently problematic.
Only CSV files are supported now.

Stephen

Hi Buddhi,
Just to add to this, it's not possible to create a data source based on a CSV/XLS file.
What Yellowfin does do, is import the CSV to your selected database, which is then used to create reports.
If you update your CSV (add extra rows), you can actually update this file, so the existing reports will return the latest data.
Detailed information on this can be found on our wiki here: CSV Report Imports.
Please let us know if you have further questions on this.
Regards,
David
