Cross-tab with drill-through – no options in drop-down for ‘Hyperlink Field’
21 February, 2014
Hello: We're trying to create a simple drill-through report. The parent report is a cross-tab report with pay period as a column and department names and 'total hours' (a sum) as rows. We'd like to be able to drill through this report on the 'total hours' field to a child report where we'd see the detail for that department (showing actual employee names, etc) for that pay period. However, when we attempt to set this up we are unable to select 'total hours' (or any other field) as the hyperlink field for the drill through.
Do you know why this may be? Thank you.

Hi Adam,
This appears to be a small bug.
To fix this, go back to your data step and move the 'total hours' metric from rows to the columns area of the report builder.
Cheers,
Cameron

I am having a similar issue with a cross tab parent report. However, the parent report also displays a stacked vertical bar report which requires a cross tab configuration. So I can't simply move objects from rows to columns. Is it the case that the bug referred to above removes the functionality for a drill through on a cross tab report?
Hi Mark,
Your don't need to change your report configuration, it will remain a Crosstab Report.
All you have to do is drag the Metric from Rows to Columns as below:
It will then show up in the Hyperlink field list.

Stephen

That worked! I hadn't tried that because of a concern that it could mess up the display of either the table-based or chart results of the report. But it all worked great.
Thanks,
Mark.

Hi am trying to create a drill-through report. The parent report is a cross-tab report with "TAHUN" as a column and "JENIS TRANSAKSI" as rows. We'd like to be able to drill through this report on the 'TAHUN' field to a child report where we'd see the detail for the report. However, when we attempt to set this up we are unable to select "TAHUN" as the hyperlink field for the drill through.

Hi Aishah,
Thank you for contacting us with your query.
I have had a look into this and replicated your issue. I have spoken with the dev team and created an enhancement task to enable users to hyperlink to dimensions, not just metrics when using a cross tab report (TASK ID: 173523).
A workaround for the interim, is to use a column report, as this will then allow you to use your date field as the hyperlink.
Please let me know if you have any questions or I can assist further with this matter.
Kind Regards,
Katie
